Patient Groups

To help improve the services for cancer care throughout Scotland there is nothing more important than hearing the voice of the patients and their families.

The National Youth Advisory Forum (YAF) consists of members across Scotland who have accessed teenager and young adult cancer services.  Despite the impact on their lives, the YAF remained engaged with the MSN CYPC and motivated to contribute to the development of the MSN services for TYA with cancer, including;

  • Developing the model for the Buddy Support System and implementing a peer-to-peer support network for young people with cancer.
  • Meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Health to discuss the benefits of accessing psychology, physiotherapy and dietetic support when diagnosed with cancer as a young person.

The Parent and Family Forum consists of family members of those affected by cancer. Members of the Parent and Family Forum were part of the overall Cancer Strategy Development Group and their feedback ensured that the service user’s voice was represented prior to moving to final publication. This collaborative approach has paved the way for the development of this ambitious new cancer strategy to ensure that all children and young people with cancer in Scotland receive high quality care throughout their journey.
