Accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to the msncypc.nhs.scot website.

This website is run by NHS National Services Scotland in support for the MSN Children & Young People with Cancer programme. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • Twitter widget on the homepage is not fully compliant as the widget links do not have a discernible name.
  • Accordion element block does not display unique ARIA ID.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the exemptions listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • PDFs on the website do not meet accessibility standards and therefore are not accessible to screen reader users. These pdfs were first published prior to September 2018 and are not essential for the function of the website. Any new PDFs will meet accessibility standards.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs are essential to providing our services. We plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. However, if there is a specific document that you would like to request in HTML format, we will do our best to oblige where possible and practicable. Any new PDFs we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Navigation and accessing information

There’s no way to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option).

It’s not always possible to change the device orientation from horizontal to vertical without making it more difficult to view the content.

Interactive tools and transactions

This site does not currently provide any interactive tools or transactions.

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. We plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
