COURAGE IN CONVERSATION: ‘RADIO THERAPY’ PODCAST Series 2 launches, proudly supported by the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Following the hugely successful launch of the first series in April 2024, which focused on the experiences of eight young people living with cancer, series two of ‘Radio Therapy’ has been released. In this six-part series some familiar young people from series one, along with a new young person, introduce us to their parents.

By asking each other questions they’ve never asked before, we will hear authentic conversations and personal discussions about their experiences as a family. Giving us an insight into their private thoughts, feelings and reactions to hearing the diagnosis, the parents discuss the impact of having a child with cancer. We hear about the reality of managing day-to-day life as they navigate their way through treatment, coping with the side effects of treatment and finding strength as a family. The series also explores adjusting to change and the impact on family roles and relationships, as well as the ongoing emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis on the whole family.

It serves as a platform not only for those directly impacted but also for their friends, families, and communities, providing insights and understanding following a cancer diagnosis.

Julie Cain, Teenage Cancer Trust National Lead Nurse for Scotland, and creator of the podcasts commented: “The primary objective of the original podcasts was to give young people in Scotland a voice, and an opportunity to share their lived experiences of being a young person with cancer. There was an overwhelming response to series one and the positive feedback received has exceeded all our expectations. Parents have told us they wish they had a similar resource to help manage some of the challenges they faced. I believe that giving them this opportunity to open up and share the reality of being a parent of a young person with cancer will help other families now and, in the future”

Gillian Hailstones, Deputy CEO of Beatson Cancer Charity said: “We are thrilled to sponsor the second series of ‘Radio Therapy,’ following the success of the first series. This new season, which focuses on the experiences of parents as they support their children through cancer, offers a unique and deeply personal look into the challenges these families face.

Graham Hart, Grants Officer of Beatson Cancer Charity said: I am delighted to support the delivery of this insightful podcast project offering key information and peer support for the parents of young people affected by cancer.”

Episode one has already been released in memory of Eden, one of the podcasters from series one, who passed away with her family by her side. Eden and her family were grateful for the opportunity to record this podcast and requested the episode be released.

“Radio Therapy” podcast is recorded by Go Radio in Glasgow, ensuring a high-quality listening experience for audiences.
