Raigmore Hospital in Inverness provides shared care for Children and Young People receiving treatment for oncology and haematology conditions in any of the three primary treatment centres in Scotland.
The team consists of one paediatrician with an interest in oncology/haematology, a speciality doctor and a paediatric oncology nursing team. They hold clinics weekly at Raigmore Hospital and host a visiting consultant clinics from the primary treatment centres. The specialist nursing team provides an outreach service throughout the NHS Highland Region and some Systemic Anti Cancer Therapies (SACT) are administered at the weekly oncology clinic. Children and Young People requiring inpatient care are admitted to the Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore. Patients aged 16-25 years receiving treatment in adult services are supported by the TYA service which includes a part time Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist, funded by Teenage Cancer Trust.
